*Variations in the User Prompts from chart to chart are just the result of random number generation in Python. I wrote a few arrays of various styles and methods to ask questions to change up the results. Every time this site writes an explanation or generates an image, the script picks from each at random.
I sequence the requests into multiple prompts because I find GPT 3.5 to perform much better with short, well-managed contexts. Thus, I track the context directly in Python and only ask ChatGPT targeted questions.

The connection between UFO sightings in Vermont and the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs has long been a subject of curiosity and skepticism. In "Smith et al.," the authors found no direct correlation between these phenomena, dismissing the idea as mere coincidence. However, our exploration takes a deeper dive into the celestial and terrestrial realms to uncover a startling connection that challenges conventional wisdom and raises eyebrows faster than a UFO zooming across the night sky.
Turning the pages of "Doe's Cosmic Chronicles: An Interstellar Odyssey," the unexpected link between UFO sightings and Everest triumphs becomes even more perplexing. The author suggests that perhaps extraterrestrial beings are navigating their UFOs to align with the ascent of courageous climbers, giving a whole new meaning to 'reaching for the stars.' These findings not only add a dash of extraterrestrial intrigue but also invite us to consider the boundless possibilities of cosmic connections on earthly achievements.
On the fiction front, titles like "A Climb to Remember" by T. S. Adventure and "Alien Encounters in the Green Mountain State" by R. E. Needle provide imaginative narratives of climbers encountering otherworldly beings during their ascent. While these works may not hold scientific weight, they do add a touch of whimsy to our exploration of the cosmic forces at play in our earthly pursuits.
In the realm of internet memes, the popular "Ancient Aliens" meme featuring Giorgio A. Tsoukalos speculating on extraterrestrial involvement manages to infuse levity into the debate. This meme, often captioned with humorous alien-related theories, serves as a comical reminder that the cosmos might have a more profound impact on our daily lives than we realize.
And in the spirit of interstellar humor, here's a dad joke for your cosmic amusement: Why don't aliens eat clowns? Because they taste funny! Just like the seemingly improbable link between UFO sightings in Vermont and successful Everest climbs, this joke presents a twist that's sure to elicit a chuckle – or at least an eye roll.
As we continue our odyssey through the strange and unexpected, let's keep our sights set on the stars and the summit, for there may be more to this enigmatic connection than meets the telescope.

To commence our celestial investigation, we commenced perusing copious reports of UFO sightings and Mount Everest expeditions. The seemingly incongruous datasets were sourced from the National UFO Reporting Center and the CBC archives, with entries spanning the years 1975 to 2011. Now, let's address the elephant in the spacecraft - how on Earth did we analyze these unorthodox datasets?
Our methodological approach involved more twists and turns than a UFO attempting evasive maneuvers. First, we conducted a rigorous cleaning process to remove any extraterrestrial interference and ensure the integrity of the datasets. This entailed sifting through numerous reports of alleged encounters, separating credible sightings from instances of misidentified celestial phenomena (looking at you, weather balloons!).
With the datasets duly sanitized, we proceeded to perform a correlation analysis using top-notch statistical tools. Our aim was to scrutinize the temporal relationship between the reported UFO sightings in Vermont and the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs. This analysis involved running complex algorithms that were more convoluted than deciphering an alien language, but rest assured, our terrestrial expertise prevailed.
Now, if you'll allow a brief detour from the seriousness of our methodological discussion - here's a UFO-themed dad joke for cosmic comic relief: Why don't aliens eat clowns? Because they taste funny! Oh, the humanity!
Returning to the matter at hand, our statistical analysis involved calculating the correlation coefficient, quantifying the strength and direction of the relationship between UFO sightings and successful Everest ascents. Additionally, we employed a hypothesis test to assess the significance of the observed correlation, ensuring that our findings weren't merely a product of statistical chance.
Finally, we conducted sensitivity analyses to evaluate the robustness of our results against potential extraterrestrial interference (kidding!) and alternative methodological approaches. This comprehensive approach allowed us to confidently navigate the cosmic complexities and present findings that are grounded in empirical rigor, despite the otherworldly subject matter.
With our methodological odyssey complete, we're now prepared to unveil the perplexing, yet statistically sound, connection we uncovered between UFO sightings in Vermont and the triumphs atop Mount Everest. Prepare for a celestial revelation that's both data-driven and downright otherworldly!

Our analysis revealed a striking correlation between UFO sightings in Vermont and the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs over the span of 1975 to 2011. The correlation coefficient of 0.8944865 suggests a strong positive relationship, indicating that as the sightings of unidentified flying objects in the Green Mountain State increased, so did the number of successful ascents of the world's tallest peak.
Now, for a sky-high dad joke: What did the astronaut say to the alien? You're out of this world! Our findings may not involve alien encounters, but they certainly present an otherworldly connection that is difficult to overlook.
The calculated r-squared value of 0.8001061 further supports the robustness of this correlation. This substantial value suggests that approximately 80% of the variation in the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs can be explained by the variation in reported UFO sightings in Vermont. In simpler terms, it seems there's more to these peculiar sightings than meets the telescope.
Fig. 1 showcases the scatterplot illustrating the strong correlation between the two variables. The figure visually conveys the upward trend in successful Mount Everest climbs as UFO sightings in Vermont increased, adding a compelling visual dimension to our otherworldly findings.
In the words of the great philosopher Spock, "Fascinating." Our unexpected discovery prompts further contemplation of the cosmic forces at play in shaping our earthly endeavors. What might we learn from this peculiar correlation? Our results invite a fresh perspective on the interstellar influences on terrestrial achievements, challenging us to look beyond our usual earthly explanations and reach for the stars - or, in this case, the summit of Mount Everest.

[[RESULTS]]

Our investigation into the correlation between UFO sightings in Vermont and the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs has ventured into uncharted territory, uncovering a remarkable connection that challenges conventional understanding. The cosmic implications of our findings cannot be underestimated, and it's clear that there's more to these peculiar sightings than meets the telescope. As we ponder the implications of this correlation, it's worth noting that truth is indeed stranger than fiction. In this case, the truth seems to be hovering right above us in the form of unidentified flying objects.
Our results confirmed and extended the findings of previous research, particularly the work of "Doe's Cosmic Chronicles: An Interstellar Odyssey," which had suggested a potential tie between extraterrestrial activities and the feats of intrepid mountaineers. The robust correlation coefficient and r-squared value we obtained provide statistical support for the previously speculative notion that there could indeed be a cosmic connection influencing the success of mountain climbers. It seems that the cosmic dance between UFO sightings and successful Everest climbs is not merely coincidental but rather indicative of some underlying celestial influence.
Now, for a punchline that's as high-flying as a UFO: Why did the astronaut break up with his girlfriend? Because he needed space! Just like the astronaut in this joke, our results certainly need some space for further exploration and interpretation. While we may not be encountering extraterrestrial beings on our earthly pursuits, our findings highlight the potential impact of interstellar forces on our achievements.
The scatterplot presented in Fig. 1 visually underscores the upward trend in successful Mount Everest climbs alongside increasing UFO sightings in Vermont. This compelling visual representation serves as a stark reminder that there may be cosmic forces at play which extend beyond our current awareness. "Unidentified Flying Correlations: The Strange Connection Between UFO Sightings in Vermont and Total Number of Successful Mount Everest Climbs"
[[ABSTRACT]]
It's a question that's been up in the air for decades - do UFO sightings in Vermont have any connection to the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs? Our research aims to shed light on this cosmic conundrum and perhaps provide a new perspective on the mountain's peak performance.
Analyzing data from the National UFO Reporting Center and the CBC, we embarked on this otherworldly investigation. The correlation coefficient of 0.8944865 and p-value < 0.01 for the years 1975 to 2011 uncovered an unexpected link between sightings of unidentified flying objects in the Green Mountain State and the triumphs atop the world's tallest peak.
Now, for a pun that's out of this world: Did you hear about the UFO party? It was out of this world! But in all seriousness, our findings point to a statistical relationship that can't simply be dismissed as a cosmic coincidence. What could possibly explain this peculiar correlation? Could it be the alien ambassadors showing their support for daring mountaineers? Or perhaps the locals in Vermont are transmitting positive vibes to those scaling the heights from afar?
As researchers, we're accustomed to uncovering new heights of understanding, but this particular discovery truly takes the cake - or should we say, the summit? Our results invite further investigation into the cosmic forces at play in our earthly endeavors and offer a fresh take on the interstellar influences on terrestrial achievements.
[[INTRDUCTION]]
The enigmatic allure of UFO sightings and the awe-inspiring feats of scaling Mount Everest have captivated the collective imagination of humanity for decades. Our study delves into the unexpected confluence of these seemingly disparate phenomena, seeking to unravel a connection that defies conventional wisdom.
Speaking of defying conventional wisdom, did you hear about the UFO that crashed into a bakery? It was quite the cosmic confectionery catastrophe! Now, while our research may not involve extraterrestrial delicacies, it does offer a thought-provoking exploration of the correlation between UFO sightings in Vermont and the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs.

[[CONCLUSION]]
In conclusion, our research has revealed a remarkably strong and statistically significant correlation between UFO sightings in Vermont and the total number of successful Mount Everest climbs from 1975 to 2011. The substantial correlation coefficient of 0.8944865 and a p-value less than 0.01 have left us scratching our heads almost as much as a close encounter with an alien. It's a puzzle that's as confounding as trying to find the UFO that double-parked in outer space.
The r-squared value of 0.8001061 further bolsters the robustness of this correlation, suggesting that approximately 80% of the variation in successful ascents of Mount Everest can be attributed to the variation in reported UFO sightings in Vermont. It's an otherworldly connection that's as solid as the ground control's coffee.
Fig. 1 visually depicts this cosmic correlation with a scatterplot that's as enlightening as an extraterrestrial flashlight. As we contemplate the implications of our findings, we can't help but wonder if the aliens are rooting for the brave climbers reaching new heights, or if there's a cosmic force at play that's as mysterious as a UFO vanishing into the night sky.
As much as we'd love to continue this intergalactic exploration, we believe that this paper marks the conclusion of this particular cosmic conundrum. It seems that the UFO sightings in Vermont may indeed have a mysterious link to the triumphs on Mount Everest, and for now, that's a revelation that's as mind-boggling as an alien trying to figure out a Rubik's Cube. With that, we're aiming our telescopes toward new frontiers - and leaving this celestial connection to ponder in its own cosmic mystery. No more research needed - this paper is truly out of this world!

Correlation is a measure of how much the variables move together. If it is 0.99, when one goes up the other goes up. If it is 0.02, the connection is very weak or non-existent. If it is -0.99, then when one goes up the other goes down. If it is 1.00, you probably messed up your correlation function.
r2 = 0.8001061 (Coefficient of determination)
This means 80% of the change in the one variable (i.e., Total Number of Successful Mount Everest Climbs) is predictable based on the change in the other (i.e., UFO sightings in Vermont) over the 37 years from 1975 through 2011.
p < 0.01, which is statistically significant(Null hypothesis significance test)
The p-value is 8.6E-14. 0.0000000000000863643765362034
The p-value is a measure of how probable it is that we would randomly find a result this extreme. More specifically the p-value is a measure of how probable it is that we would randomly find a result this extreme if we had only tested one pair of variables one time.
But I am a p-villain. I absolutely did not test only one pair of variables one time. I correlated hundreds of millions of pairs of variables. I threw boatloads of data into an industrial-sized blender to find this correlation.
Who is going to stop me? p-value reporting doesn't require me to report how many calculations I had to go through in order to find a low p-value!
On average, you will find a correaltion as strong as 0.89 in 8.6E-12% of random cases. Said differently, if you correlated 11,578,848,132,839 random variables You don't actually need 11 trillion variables to find a correlation like this one. I don't have that many variables in my database. You can also correlate variables that are not independent. I do this a lot.
p-value calculations are useful for understanding the probability of a result happening by chance. They are most useful when used to highlight the risk of a fluke outcome. For example, if you calculate a p-value of 0.30, the risk that the result is a fluke is high. It is good to know that! But there are lots of ways to get a p-value of less than 0.01, as evidenced by this project.
In this particular case, the values are so extreme as to be meaningless. That's why no one reports p-values with specificity after they drop below 0.01.
Just to be clear: I'm being completely transparent about the calculations. There is no math trickery. This is just how statistics shakes out when you calculate hundreds of millions of random correlations.
with the same 36 degrees of freedom, Degrees of freedom is a measure of how many free components we are testing. In this case it is 36 because we have two variables measured over a period of 37 years. It's just the number of years minus ( the number of variables minus one ), which in this case simplifies to the number of years minus one.
you would randomly expect to find a correlation as strong as this one.
[ 0.8, 0.94 ] 95% correlation confidence interval (using the Fisher z-transformation)
The confidence interval is an estimate the range of the value of the correlation coefficient, using the correlation itself as an input. The values are meant to be the low and high end of the correlation coefficient with 95% confidence.
This one is a bit more complciated than the other calculations, but I include it because many people have been pushing for confidence intervals instead of p-value calculations (for example: NEJM. However, if you are dredging data, you can reliably find yourself in the 5%. That's my goal!
All values for the years included above: If I were being very sneaky, I could trim years from the beginning or end of the datasets to increase the correlation on some pairs of variables. I don't do that because there are already plenty of correlations in my database without monkeying with the years.
Still, sometimes one of the variables has more years of data available than the other. This page only shows the overlapping years. To see all the years, click on "See what else correlates with..." link above.

Why this works
- Data dredging: I have 25,153 variables in my database. I compare all these variables against each other to find ones that randomly match up. That's 632,673,409 correlation calculations! This is called “data dredging.” Instead of starting with a hypothesis and testing it, I instead abused the data to see what correlations shake out. It’s a dangerous way to go about analysis, because any sufficiently large dataset will yield strong correlations completely at random.
- Lack of causal connection: There is probably
Because these pages are automatically generated, it's possible that the two variables you are viewing are in fact causually related. I take steps to prevent the obvious ones from showing on the site (I don't let data about the weather in one city correlate with the weather in a neighboring city, for example), but sometimes they still pop up. If they are related, cool! You found a loophole.
no direct connection between these variables, despite what the AI says above. This is exacerbated by the fact that I used "Years" as the base variable. Lots of things happen in a year that are not related to each other! Most studies would use something like "one person" in stead of "one year" to be the "thing" studied. - Observations not independent: For many variables, sequential years are not independent of each other. If a population of people is continuously doing something every day, there is no reason to think they would suddenly change how they are doing that thing on January 1. A simple
Personally I don't find any p-value calculation to be 'simple,' but you know what I mean.
p-value calculation does not take this into account, so mathematically it appears less probable than it really is.
